You can now easily drag images into your gallery block or use the Upload button to add them. You can also choose images from your media library in WordPress. 

You can see that we’ve added two more pictures to our Gallery block. WordPress has put them next to each other on its own. What if you want three pictures next to each other? Here’s what happens when a third picture is added. WordPress changes the size of the other two to make room for all three: 

If you add a fourth picture, WordPress will put it at the bottom of the list. You can change how many images WordPress will put next to each other in a single column. First, if the Gallery block is not already chosen, click on it. The Gallery’s block settings are on the right side of the screen. 

Here, you can change the number of columns from 1 to 4. For example, you can set Columns to 2 if you require two images next to each other and two more below them. If you need to move an image around in your Gallery, all you have to do is click on it. Then you’ll see arrows that you may use to keep moving it forward or backward in the Gallery. 

Using a Plugin in WordPress to put images next to each other 

You will need a WordPress gallery plugin if you are using the old classic WordPress editor or if you want to make more complicated galleries than the default Gallery block. We suggest you use Envira Gallery because it is the best gallery plugin for WordPress. For this tutorial, we will utilize the free version of Envira, but if you want advanced features like albums, image slideshows, etc., you may want to get the Pro version. 

First, you’ll need to get the Envira Gallery plugin and turn it on. Check out our step-by-step lead on how to set up a WordPress plugin if you don’t know how. Next, you can go to your WordPress dashboard and click on Envira Gallery » Add New. You will have to name your Gallery. The name we gave ours was Example Gallery. Next, put the images you would like to use on your computer. 

You could drag and drop them into the upload box or use one of the “Select Files” buttons. Here’s what the uploaded pictures look like: Here, you might want to give your pictures a title and alt text. When a consumer moves their mouse over your image, the title will appear below it. The title also shows below the picture in the lightbox popup mode, which we’ll watch in a moment. 

Click the Edit button on a picture in the Gallery to change the title and alt text. Then you can change the name of your picture. The filename of the image is used by default. You should also add alt text since this is good for the SEO of your WordPress site. If the image is described in the title, you can repeat the title for the alt text. 

Once you’re done, please click the “Save Metadata” button before clicking the “X” to close the window. Before you can add your Gallery to the site, you’ll need to make it public. Go ahead and click the “Publish” button on the screen’s right side.  

Now, you can change a post or page or make a new one. To attach a block to your place, click the plus sign (+) in the content editor and choose the Envira Gallery block. You can look for it in the “Common Blocks” section or the search bar. 

Then, you’ll need to click the dropdown menu to choose your Gallery. 

Your Gallery should be in the right place in your post. You can change how things work on the right edge of the display. For example, you may want to change how the columns are arranged or the size of the space between the images. 

We decided to always show our Gallery in two columns. We also made the space between each picture bigger. When a user clicks on an image, a lightbox pops up with the full-size version. They can also use the lightbox to move from one picture to the next. 

If you want to add more pictures to your Gallery, you can go back to it by passing to your WordPress dashboard and clicking on Envira Gallery » All Galleries. To change your Gallery, click on its name. 

Any modifications you create to your Gallery will appear in the posts, pages, or sidebars where you have them. You don’t have to add it again to these. You can add an established gallery to your post by clicking the Add Gallery button above the classic editor.
