A question on how to combine two WordPress blogs was recently posed to us by one of our readers. You may set up many WordPress sites, only to decide later that you want to combine them into one. WordPress comes with features already built in that make this process relatively simple. This post will walk you through the steps necessary to successfully combine two WordPress websites into one.
There are likely many motivations behind combining two or more WordPress sites into one. You may wish to build a new WordPress blog by merging your previous blogs to collect all of your material in one spot.
One further reason may be that you wish to combine the content of one of your secondary blogs with one of your main blogs since the secondary blog is not performing as well as the primary blog.
Most WordPress users consolidate their sites to reduce the amount of work spent managing different WordPress installations. Maintaining and expanding a single WordPress site is far more manageable than operating, promoting, upgrading, and storing backups of two or more WordPress sites. You may concentrate on just one WordPress site instead.
Let’s have a look at the several ways that WordPress sites may be merged effortlessly.
We will pretend that you have a WordPress website located at http://oldsite.com and that you wish to combine it with the website located at http://newsite.com/ for this illustration.
It would be better if you didn’t overlook the need to create a full backup of your websites using WordPress. This will be helpful if anything goes wrong and you need to revert to a previous version.
To begin, you will need to go to the Tools » Export page in the administration section of your previous WordPress website. The site in question is the one you want to combine with the more recent one.
To proceed, you will first need to ensure that the ‘All content’ option is selected and then click the ‘Download Export File button.
At this point, WordPress will create an XML file and transmit it to the browser you’re using. You must save this file to your laptop to prepare for the subsequent step, which requires its use.
It is time to import the material you exported from your previous website onto your new WordPress site now that you have completed this step.
Visit the Tools – Import page in the administrative part of the site that will serve as the destination for the combined material. This is the site where the content will be integrated.
On this page, you will find a list of all the import tools available for you to download and use with your WordPress website. To install WordPress, go to the bottom of the page and click the “Install now” option.
After the WordPress importer has been installed on your computer, you must choose the ‘Run Importer’ option to proceed.
After that, you will be prompted to submit the WordPress export file that was previously downloaded.
You will need to pick the XML file you previously downloaded by clicking the “Choose File” button and selecting the file from the drop-down menu.
Your new WordPress site will automatically get the material previously exported to an export file by WordPress. A message congratulating you on your achievement will appear when it is done.
After successfully combining the material from two different WordPress websites, the following step is to configure redirects so that people who are now accessing the older website will be immediately transferred to the new WordPress website.
On the older WordPress site, you will need to make changes. htaccess file.
You may change the .htaccess file by linking to your WordPress site with an FTP client or utilizing the File Manager tool included in the cPanel associated with your WordPress hosting account.
Remember that you will need to change “newsite.com” to the domain name of your newly created WordPress site. Make sure to save your modifications before uploading the modified file to the server.
You may now go to any post on the older version of your WordPress site, and when you do so, you will be sent directly to the corresponding article on the new site.
