We want to make it easier for international IT professionals to settle in Finland,” writes Editor-in-Chief Harri Junttila.
There are approximately 10,000 international IT professionals working in Finland. They come from all over the world, including, from the perspective of Finns, exotic places such as Tanzania, Jordan, and Indonesia.
According to Statistics Finland’s employment statistics, the majority of international IT professionals in Finland come from India, China, Pakistan, and the former Soviet Union.
The number of international professionals has been growing rapidly. In 2012, there were about three thousand of them. By 2017, the number had risen to five thousand, and since then the growth has continued steadily at a rate of about one thousand people per year.
The number of international professionals has been growing rapidly.
At the same time, the number of Finnish IT professionals has grown from about 63,000 to about 90,000. Therefore, the share of international professionals has increased from five percent to ten percent, and the growth continues.
Living as a foreign worker in Finland can sometimes be challenging. Even if the work itself is suitable and encouraging, there is no escaping the fact that the language of the new home country is completely foreign. It is difficult to know where and how to engage in conversations with team members. It is boring if colleagues talk about events in the Finnish IT industry because one cannot understand anything. The common interface is small.
But times are changing! We at Tivi have started publishing articles in English under the name Tivi in English. The articles are translated using artificial intelligence and published in their own section on the Tivi website. Spread the word!
Our purpose is simple. We want to help international IT professionals better integrate into their new home country and their new work community. At the same time, we want to strengthen Finland’s image and attractiveness.
Without artificial intelligence, Tivi in English would not be possible. It proves to us journalists that with modern IT tools, we can further revolutionize an already digitized industry. It’s a great thing.
